Residence VM

Located in a century-old building, a former cold store on the edge of Montréal's Old Port, this imposing brick and concrete structure was the ideal setting for a 21st-century loft.

A modern-art enthusiast, the client gave us carte blanche for the interior design. He wanted the maximum amount of room for displaying works of art, but had a strong aversion to traditional gypsum and plaster walls. He had in mind a fluid space that would lend itself to exhibiting and appreciating works of art.

The interior design was based on a horseshoe layout in order to make the most of the windows and minimize the flow of traffic through the loft. At the heart of the loft, the office allowed the client to view the entire space. The kitchen, dining room and living room were set up as a series of integrated areas within an open, loft-style concept.
